Anyone can learn html to create their first webpage. Many tutorials are available online for free, and should be checked out before you purchase books and software. Favorites include: Dave Kristula's Tutorial, The Maricopa Center For Learning and the NCSA's Beginner's Guide to HTML Home Page. Want to make your website more "sticky"? Need counters, greeting cards, chat rooms, forums and more? Check out Bravenet.com. By far the most comprehensive site, featuring free downloads, free script and more. REALLY good stuff! Dr Watson 4.0 is a free service to evaluate your web page on the internet, verifying your HTML syntax, spell checking, and checking for search engine compatability. Remember, some search engines won't accept your site if it has too many errors, so be sure to check out the doctor. Free javascript and applets:

AutoScripter - Script Engines for Web Developers Need hex codes for your font and background colors? Visit Dream Artists Hex Code Page. And check out ImagiTek's site, which allows you to preview and download background textures and provides the HTML tags for your selection. Other favorites are Big Beautiful Backgrounds, Free-Backgrounds.com and Background City. Free clipart, backgrounds, fonts, bullets and sidebars: 321clipart.com. Free fonts: Fontfile.com. Ready to publish your website? Download Fetch, a user-friendly Macintosh FTP program to upload your pages. Easy to use, and the license is only $20 or so (I think it's free if it's an educational site, but don't quote me on that).

Of course, you can always create your first web page using AppleWorks. Simply save your document in html by selecting "HTML" under the "save as" option. Check out AppleWork's web page templates under "Assistants or Stationery" to get started. Graphics should be inserted in the text as inline objects or the results may be unpredictable when viewed through a browser. You can even create document and URL links. Get more information from AppleWorks Help, T&B's AppleWorks Resources, or Russ Conte's Tutorial. Cynthia O'hora's Macintosh Tips and Tutorials and Merten and Schroeder's Focus on Mac Support are great online resources for Mac users. For a helpful directory on everything Macintosh, visit The Macintosh Stuff Page.
